Hi JP,

A most interesting post, indeed.

I love how you show two distinct styles of filmmaking; the "deep" cycle and the "short" cycle.

As a documentarian, I'm a fan of the "deep" cycle; mostly because I think audiences, in the long run, are hungry for meaning and connection with a brand. The "short" cycle might provide an instant "connection" part but clearly lacks in creating any long-term "meaning."

Also, while many clients (and filmmakers) secretly wish their videos would strike viral "gold," viral is ultimately determined by the audience.

My viral plans for this year? Well, I am blessed that clients that aren't seeking viral solutions but meaningful solutions; even it's just for a few eyeballs or thousands.

Who knows? Maybe someday in the future we'll see brands merging the "short" cycle with the "deep" cycle in videos.

Great post, JP. - Thomas Clifford
