The search power of Twitter is undeniable, but you're right in pointing out this possible hiccup which could rob many companies the opportunity to track links to their site.  I like your suggestion, as bigger corporations could certainly benefit from hosting their own shortened links.

I think this presents a great opportunity for Twitter to flex their muscle and show how some ingenuity can mine any desired result from their huge cache of tweets.  Should they develop a method to search shortened URLs for the actual URL, including it any search results, that would simplify the process for any company looking to gather feedback.  Obviously that's easier said than done, but if they could pull something like that off, the likes of Google and Microsoft would find Twitter even more irresistible.  - MarkOLM™</description>
